A project can start from an idea, a sketch, an existing model or a defined specification. The work may include part modelling, assembly development, assessment of clearances and interfaces, and preparation of manufacturing drawings. Is prototyping included in every design project?
No. A prototype is proposed when it helps answer a specific engineering question. Its purpose and scope are agreed separately.
